Our History
Founded in 1862 by Frank Toepfer, a visionary inspired by Linus Yale’s ‘mortise cylinder pin tumbler’ lock, Toepfer Security has a storied history deeply rooted in innovation and mechanical ingenuity. From crafting locks and safes to building Milwaukee’s first ‘motor wagon’ in 1890, Toepfer has always been at the forefront of technological advancement.
As the decades passed, the Toepfer legacy of mechanical expertise and innovation flourished. Edwin Jr., Frank’s grandson, took the helm in 1959, propelling the company to new heights with his invention of the universally adopted Electric Strike and over 200 patents that significantly influenced the automotive and security industries. This spirit of innovation and dedication has been the cornerstone of our success for over 160 years.
